About Me

Last updated: July 20th, 2026

Hello! I'm Sydney "Syd" Horan. I am a biologist who has worked on host-parasite relationships in several systems, from newts to nestlings. I am currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Connecticut in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, with an estimated graduation in Spring 2027.

My overall interest is the influence of environmental change and human influence on host-parasite (and host-pathogen) systems. I employ a mixture of field studies, laboratory work, and natural history collections to answer these questions. I also love outreach and the ability to integrate my creative passions, such as art and photography, with my work to better communicate ideas. You'll see my own photography and art featured in many of my presentations!

In my free time, I am also an amateur webmaster. This site's layout was coded by me without the use of generative AI. For more information on the resources I used to build this site, click here.
